From November 7, 2025 to May 10, 2026, the National Gallery presents Wright of Derby: From the Shadows, the first major exhibition devoted to Joseph Wright’s iconic candlelit paintings. Known for his dramatic use of light and shade, Wright’s work captures moments of discovery, learning, and moral questioning. Featuring over 20 works including paintings, prints, and objects, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on his role within the Enlightenment, while exploring the deeper emotional and philosophical layers of his art.
