About Citra Sasmita: Into Eternal Land:
Citra Sasmita's exhibition "Into Eternal Land" is a captivating journey through painting, installation, embroidery, and scent. The exhibition, held at The Curve in the Barbican Centre, London, explores themes of ancestral memory, ritual, and migration. Sasmita's work often engages with the Indonesian Kamasan painting technique, traditionally practiced by men to narrate Hindu epics. By reclaiming this technique, she challenges gender roles and colonial misconceptions of Balinese culture. Her powerful female protagonists populate a post-patriarchal world, connecting with ancestral traditions and grappling with the natural world's power and precarity
