Born in Paris on April 9, 1964, Sophie Dumont lives and works in Langrune-sur-Mer (Normandy). She moved away from the metropolis to live for several years in the Antilles, Spain, and finally Morocco. There, she stored up a host of images and colors that she carefully kept at the bottom of her memory.
Back in France in 1991, she took the plunge and picked up her brushes. Since childhood, she was immersed in the world of painting through the drawings of her grandmother, Henriette Dumont, who sketched constantly with a line reminiscent of Matisse.
Interested in the history of art, she worked, researched, and gradually realized herself fully around 2007. Her painting became stronger—layers multiplied, revealing beaches or cliffs to those willing to discover them.
Her oil work finds its value in successive layers and transparencies, in shades of gray and white. She continues exploring the Norman universe, capturing subtle vibrations of the landscape in pearly, translucent light.
These lyrical landscapes, on the edge of abstraction, detach from the motif to reflect emotion. The image fades, leaving space for the viewer’s own interpretation.
