Built as a portrait yet resistant to literal identity, this work draws the eye through rough material, warm earth tones, and a dark surrounding field. The simplified bust feels both ancient and contemporary, with sand and leather giving the surface a physical presence that deepens its quiet intensity.

The composition centers on a frontal bust assembled through blocks of texture rather than modeled features. Face, neck, and garment are segmented into leather-like planes, coarse fibers, and granular passages that create a collage logic across the surface. Against the black ground, these fragments read with unusual clarity: ochre, brown, rust, and muted yellow advance and recede as material as much as color. The result is a portrait built from structure, contour, and surface tension, rewarding close viewing through its balance of simplification and density.
