Biography
Stina Gunilla Olsson is a Swedish artist creating soulful mixed media works inspired by land, sea, and simplicity.
I am from the southernmost part of Sweden. Here on the south coast is where I grew up. Nearly all of my ancestors were settled in this region—men and women who had to live by what the earth and water could provide. My family history, the life I live, the people I hold close, the sea, the beaches, and the golden and green farmland give me inspiration. I feel great love for this beautiful, varied landscape that carries my story.
I paint whatever comes to my mind. I often combine semi-abstract motifs with figurative elements. Mixed media is the technique I mostly use. In a single painting, you might find acrylics, watercolor, ink, and various materials to create depth and structure. Occasionally, I make collages where I cut out details from old paintings and insert them into new works.
In general, my intention is to create beautiful art. In my own home, on my own walls, I prefer paintings that make me feel good. I have become a person who seeks simplicity.
The world is complicated. My art is not.
