He grew up in Kibbutz Shamir, was a member of Kibbutz Sha'ar Ha'Amakim, lived and worked in Ein Hod and eventually settled in Haifa. Givati studied drawing and painting with the painter Marcel Janco, and spent many years of his life in many places around the world, where he developed as a painter in a variety of styles.
