Arieli immigrated to Israel in 1926, on the recommendation of the painter Boris Schatz, and studied at Bezalel in Jerusalem until the institution closed in 1928. In 1931, Arieli went to study art at the Grand Chaumière and the École Poppier de Sasson in Paris.
In 1934, he returned to Israel and worked, among other things, as a painter of film advertising signs. In 1949, he joined the "Ofakim Hadithim" group and exhibited in all of the group's exhibitions in Israel and abroad.
Arieli won several awards for his work, including the prestigious Dizengoff Prize
