Ivan Schwebel was a respected Israeli artist, born in West Virginia, USA. Schwebel began painting during his military service in the United States and later completed his studies in art history at New York University. He also studied Zen art in Kyoto, Japan.
In 1963, Schwebel immigrated to Israel and settled in Jerusalem. His paintings are characterized by a unique language, ranging from Impressionist styles to influences of American Pop Art. Schwebel's works often focus on his identity as an artist and include portraits and urban landscapes that blend biblical figures with Hollywood icons.
Schwebel also created several large murals in various locations in Israel, including the Tel Aviv Culture Palace.
