Pieternel is a self-taught professional artist who has been painting since 2005. Inspired by the animal kingdom, she uses a palette knife to create highly textured paintings in which animals appear to emerge from the canvas. Eyes and direct contact play a central role in her work, creating a strong connection between the animal and the viewer.
Each animal carries a symbolic meaning: the hare represents observation, the peacock protection, the deer the search for balance, and the horse dynamism and movement.
Pieternel works with several collections, including GlowEdition, featuring expressive animals and 23.7-carat gold; Naturels, characterized by lighter, chalk-like tones; and Moonlight, portraying animals illuminated by moonlight.
Her paintings are held in private and corporate collections in the Netherlands and internationally, and she also creates commissioned works
